Most of the time I get the urgent call from a mom in her 37th week or later, whom has been told her baby is in the breech position. She is panicked and has done some internet surfing and stumbled upon Chiropractic. In some of those cases I’ve been fortunate to treat, we’ve had success within a couple of treatments, in assisting that baby to position himself in the proper head down position. But sometimes we run up against a deadline because mom has already been scheduled for a cesarean section by her doctor. The one thing that I can’t emphasize enough, is the sooner you get your spine checked and aligned, the better. The earlier you get in for pelvic and lumbar alignments, the less chance of a breech or transverse presentation towards the end of your pregnancy. If mom’s pelvic bones are in a proper aligned position, then baby can move freely and find their way to the proper head down delivery position.
I use a low force, simple analytical process of checking leg length, palpating any muscle tension in the hips or sacral area, and aligning the spine and pelvis on a regular basis. Once the body recognizes the more neutral spinal position, the belly muscles relax and the baby is freed up to move into the head down position. The best feeling in the world is when a mom-to-be comes in and says “baby flipped!” It’s a high five moment for us both. Once baby is in the correct position, mom can relax and let nature take its course. The best part of my job is helping moms-to-be have a healthy delivery process and I every time a baby flips, I get to witness another chiropractic miracle at work.
