Pregnant mom’s are some of our most special patients that we treat in our office. Many were patients prior to getting pregnant, and even attribute chiropractic with helping them to conceive. Some find us after finding out they’re pregnant or develop an issue during the course of being pregnant. And many choose to continue getting adjusted after they deliver, because they discover the benefits of caring for their spine and nervous system and let’s face it…who doesn’t want to feel their best all of the time??
Moms-to-be go through countless physical and physiological changes in their bodies as baby grows inside of her. Some of these symptoms I’ve treated patients for include but aren’t limited to: nausea, edema, back pain, headaches, arm or hand numbness, sciatica or leg pain and fatigue and breech or transverse presentation of baby before birth.
Chiropractic adjustments align the joints in the spine to allow for proper nerve messages to be sent to all systems of the body. In pregnancy, it’s important the uterus, cervix and endocrine systems are functioning optimally so that not only do you feel your best each month, but your body knows how to respond throughout each aspect of growth and development of pregnancy. Your nervous system is responsible for nourishing baby as he grows, and then kickstarting the labor process. It’s responsible for controlling your contractions and preparing and dilating the cervix prior to delivery. If this sequence of events is managed by a properly functioning nervous system, it is well known that patients that have received regular chiropractic care can experience a shortened amount of time spent in labor and delivery.
