Back pain affects more than 50% of adults each year.  It is the second most common reason for visits to the doctor’s offices.  It can result in lost times and wages, increased disability claims, and let’s not forget the growing opioid epidemic.
The low back can withstand tremendous forces without injury. However, if the low back is out of alignment or has weakened supporting core muscles, something as simple as lifting a bag of groceries or bending to pick up a pencil, can cause a low back injury.

Subluxation:

Chiropractors are trained to detect and diagnose Subluxation.  When there is a disruption in the normal movement or alignment of the vertebrae, the result is diminished nerve flow and inflammation to the surrounding tissues. This inflammation leads to pain or a decrease in optimal function.

In the lumbar spine, these commonly occurs at the transition between the lower spine and the sacrum. Subluxations if left untreated, can lead to debilitating low back pain.

Fortunately, subluxations are easily treatable and often times a significant reduction in pain is experienced almost immediately after treatment.

Common Types of Low Back Pain:

Sprains, Strains and Spasms:

One common source of low back pain can occur after performing physical activity or sports. These activities can result in low back pain and sometimes buttocks or even leg pain.  Commonly accompanied by muscular spasms which don’t always resolve on their own. This is common among people who are inactive during the week or with the weekend warriors.  The overworked core muscles and ligaments can become swollen and tight after exercise and don’t always resolve on their own.  Overworking the muscles or ligaments of the low back can lead to small tears in the tissues, which then become painful, swollen, and tight.

SCIATICA or Leg Pain:

Sciatica pain originates in the spine, and can travel into either buttocks or leg.  It causes discomfort and pain into the lower body and legs and can be accompanied by numbness sensations. It can radiate as far as the foot and in extreme cases can causes weakness of the foot muscles or foot drop.

Finding out the source of the nerve damage that radiates to the extremities from the spine is crucial to devising a treatment plan to target the areas in the lower spine that are causing the pain.

Can Chiropractic Help Low Back Pain?

Chiropractic for the low back has been repeatedly shown to be the most effective treatment for low back pain. In fact, major studies have shown that chiropractic care is more effective, cheaper and has better long-term outcomes than any other treatment. This makes sense because chiropractic care is the only method of treatment that serves to re-establish normal vertebral motion and position in the spine. All other treatments, such as muscle relaxants, pain killers, and bed rest, only serve to decrease the symptoms of the problem and do not correct the problem itself.

Why You Should Go to a Chiropractor for Sciatica Therapy?

Safe and gentle treatments are used in our office to helps to stimulate damaged nerves to improve function and relieve the pain suffered from sciatica.

Herniated Discs and the Sciatic Nerve:

When a herniated disc presses on nerve roots, it can cause pain, numbness, and weakness in the area of the body where the nerve travels. A herniated disc in the lower back can cause pain and numbness in the buttock and down the leg. These nerves that run down the legs from the buttocks are referred to as the sciatic nerves.  Chiropractic care seeks to realign the spinal system so that the pressure to the sciatic nerves is alleviated taking away the pain suffered from sciatica.

Our office has helped many patients with both acute and chronic sciatic nerve pain. Through chiropractic care, patients can regain their health and live their life without sciatica pain. Call our office to schedule your appointment today!

Eliminate Sciatic Nerve Pain with Chiropractic Care:

In the chiropractic world, drugs and medicine are not utilized as a form of treating a patient. Over the counter drugs and prescriptions treat or mask the symptoms rather than going to the source and treating the real problem. While supplements and nutrition are almost always a part of the bigger picture when healing the body from sciatica pain.
