Pregnancy and Chiropractic Care:

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is safe, effective and most of all comfortable.  During pregnancy a woman’s posture shifts and changes as the baby grows.  These postural shifts can lead to joint and spinal misalignments called Subluxation.  These subluxations can occur anywhere along the spine, and give rise to low back or neck pain, sciatica, swelling in the limbs or even make it difficult for the baby to achieve optimal positioning within the pelvis for birth.  All of these concerns can be managed safely with conservative chiropractic care.

What are the Benefits of Chiropractic during pregnancy?

Chiropractic care offers our moms-to-be and opportunity to enjoy a more comfortable pregnancy experience.  It is critical that the pelvis and lumbar spinal segments maintain their best alignment to ensure that the sequence of steps during labor and delivery can occur in a normal manner.  A misaligned pelvis can make it difficult for the baby to find its proper position for birth.  Having regular chiropractic alignments helps to ensure each mom has a safe and expedient delivery when the time comes.

Webster Technique

As part of each expecting mother’s care program, Dr. Keri Freshour is certified to evaluate the pelvis using the Webster Technique.  This is a specific analysis to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/SI joint dysfunction. By using this specific analytic method, it restores proper pelvic balance and function.

If the sacrum is misaligned, it can lead to dystocia or difficult labor process.  Dystocia is caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-presentation. Correction of a sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia.

If the sacrum is misaligned, it can lead to nerve interference, pelvic misalignment and the tightening and torsion of specific pelvic muscles and ligaments.
These tense muscles and ligaments can have an aberent effect on the uterus and may prevent the baby from assuming comfortably the most optimal position for delivery. Pregnant mothers show a significant benefit to having their spines checked regularly throughout pregnancy, optimizing the benefits for mom and baby.
